My 13 Favorites from 2013 ♥‿♥

I was able to choose my favorites from all my pieces this year, and I was able to pick seventeen. However, I decided to narrow the list down to thirteen to somehow "match" it to 2013 XD So here, my thirteen personal favorites of all my artwork this year of 2013 :)

Marichit and Her Gloomy Grocery List (Feb 2013). Inspired by items from the game Castleville.

Sayounara (Feb 2013). From the time I decided to move on from an unhappy phase.

Floral Bison (Mar 2013). Just because I love bisons.

The Hairy Potter and the Deadly Mallows (Mar 2013). Something I had to draw because the "title" kept playing in my head.

The Odd Girl (Mar 2013). Yep. The Odd Girl by the odd girl.

The Shameless Manner I Devoured the Canned Sausages (Mar 2013). Omg did THAT really happen?? XD

Like You Do, Like You Do (Apr 2013). When I realised that offerings of my oddness were simply returned with offerings of coldness. But then I was fine because I can always throw back the ice cubes :3 Hard :))

Everyday I Walk Towards The Ultimate Playground (Jun 2013). Something I felt, that was close to the "sensation" of being "floral" and "colorful" while being inspired to keep moving forward.

Consume (Jul 2013). The triumphant feeling of overcoming what was overcoming me.

Mercury Pineapple (Aug 2013). One of those moments I would wonder if people leave because they find me too weird.

True Path (Aug 2013). Because 2013 is the Year of True Paths. Did you find yours? Or at least find the signs that would lead you to it? This coming year of 2014 is the Year of Joy. :)

Wake Up (Oct 2013). Struggling out of depression, I knew it was about time I woke up from what is not real.

Wrist Spool (Dec 2013). Something I saw in my mind as I fell asleep one afternoon. One of my many naps XD

Now I shall go and really write that letter to 2013 and 2014 :3 Happy new year, everyone! :)

Wrist Spool, Finished

So yay I finished it before work this afternoon :3

Now I need to get back to my game and my mending. The Tokobots (yes I am still at it) are giving me a hard time with all the timed stuff and the sensors but I try to play even for just a few minutes each day. And the mending, I need to finish soon so I can move on to other things to clean or throw away.

An Unusual Spool Source

At first there was just the outline.

And then I was supposed to be doing something else already, but I just had the compulsion to add the soft, blue stripes in the background.

And then the rest of the background.

And then just the skin and hair, last, because I had to watch something with my sister and she was waiting :D

I hope I can finish it today :) As well as the mending I failed to do yesterday :)) I also intend to write a letter to 2013 today. Perhaps you should too :)

2014 Planner, and Stickers and Such

One of the many gifts I got for Christmas was this lovely Paulo Coelho Sharing 2014 planner.

On this same day in 2011, I realize I blogged about having a new planner too :D

Anyway, I normally use blank planners, that is, those that do not have specific dates on them, so that I can start using them anytime or shift between planners when I suddenly choose to, so it's that kind I am using now. But in any case, I completely love this new planner (even more so when the Manuscript Found in Accra made significant changes to my life a few months back), so after the 31st of December with my current planner, I shall shift to this one for the year :3 Meanwhile, my current planner can wait, as it still has plenty of space for over half of 2015, if not all of it XD

By the way, I have been doing some major cleaning and space-clearing for the past couple of days. In the process I decided to cover my otherwise plain desk, so you can see above that it now has a colorful striped fabric cover. I have also organized many other things and kept them in their appropriate places, and I also threw away even more things. It's soothing, really, and it somehow makes everything else feel lighter. I feel like during this entire year I have thrown away over half of my things. Okay perhaps not really Thrown Away all of those I got rid of. Some went to the garage sale and some went to charity. But basically I threw away those that cannot even be of decent use to anyone and those that only make me feel bad or give me bad memories :D I cannot even remember what they were anymore :D

Today I shall do some mending, and I was supposed to do that this morning after my Sunday morning job, but I just decided out of the blue to start putting some things into my new planner, particularly my name and stickers and more stickers. The artwork of Catalina Estrada on the planner is totally lovely, so I chose tiny stickers that would simply complement and not overcrowd nor clash against the design :3

One of the things I was finally able to organize this year was my sticker box. I have a small mountain of stickers, often set aside and forgotten before, so I always ended up buying lots, thinking that I had been using them up, while in reality they all just accumulated. Anyway, they are now easily accessible and I have been using more and more of them for my planners and journals and other notebooks and such, so lately I have been finishing off small packs and sheets of them.

This sticker above is from a large sheet of big stickers with Pooh characters on them, and they all come in sparkly designs. The sheet was given to me by a Japanese friend who knew I love stickers, so when she came to visit from Japan one time, she brought this back for me.

Clearly I have also been crazy about stamp apps, being like digital stickers and all. The frame for the picture above is by  Ngingi. I think I first mentioned this app way back in October, and now I am using a few other similar apps. The frame and stamp for the picture below is by Pastel Stamp.

The leaves above are not stickers; they are part of the planner's design :D I merely added some decor tape on the page. I realize I also have Plenty of these tape rolls.

And so I love these chubby, soft stickers. The one on the far right is actually a box of banana milk but it's all yellow and white so it's not quite obvious. The dango and cupcake are clearer and lovely. We are still on the pages of my new planner :3 I did not take photos of all the pages I placed stickers on, though, so this is not going to be one long sticker parade :D Besides, I stopped when I got to the first day of January because I have yet to write on that. Anyway the app for the lovely frame and stamps above is Cutify Me

A couple of sticker sheets that have been with me for a long time:

I got these among many others when I was in Japan a few years ago. Nowadays, there are so many stickers in the stores with the same kind of design and cuteness-level as these ones, and they are quite cheap so that you can actually buy hundreds of them for a small price. However, I discovered that these much-cheaper stickers often do not last long, and if left unused after several weeks or a few months, they just fall off their sticker sheets or they just no longer stick. I have thrown away several sheets of these stickers and I am left with the Japanese and Korean ones, and those that were locally made but were just a bit pricier than the rest. And they have much better quality and can last for years. Anyway I was just sharing :3 Better spend on good-quality stickers than on really cheap but low-quality ones :)

I am not really sticker-obsessed but alright I got a bit carried away XD I mean fake stickers aren't really okay. So let me leave you with one of them chubby stickers again, this time a piglet on top of ice cream as though that isn't strange at all, and the adorable frame is by Korawia stamp.

This is still on the planner pages, and that's the dark moon you see there :3 The planner has pages showing the moon phases all throughout the year :) Anyway I hope you've all got your planners for 2014 and I hope they get filled up with happy things all throughout the year, I mean not just in terms of stickers and such, but also in terms of what you write in them. Good luck, everyone!

Grumbling Done

Finally, I've finished Grumbling from before :D

I have some sketches lined up after this Grumbling piece but I have yet to see when I shall get around to finishing them. So far I've only managed one finished illustration for this month. Tomorrow onwards I shall be quite busy with cleaning up and throwing away even more things. I hope that by the time the year ends, I will have freed myself from them, and from unfulfilled promises of supposed friends, and from people who say too many nice things and then suddenly disappear on you, and from such ugly, tiresome patterns of Disappearing Men, among other things.  It is about time I really rid myself of people and things that make me Very Sad and Very Tired. I don't want to end up looking like my drawing above :))

Yesterday I sketched something I saw in my mind as I fell asleep recently.

A grumbling crowd.

This afternoon I started coloring it.

I have to get back to work though, so I hope to finish it tomorrow.

Where the Past Week Went

I realized only yesterday that I have been away for a week! A quick rundown of what I have been up to:

The entire weekend went to a garage sale. We put out a lot of things for sale - to get rid of old things and clutter in order to make more space for the new and the things that really matter to us. It is also a great way to end the year, I believe. We sold many of the items - from clothes to appliances to household items to odd, random things we found just lying around the house.

I have also begun (yes just this week) to take care of some tokens and presents I intend to give to some people for Christmas.

I like the wrapping part, and I especially like getting into an old habit of writing notes in stationery and sealing them in envelopes with cute stickers. I remember doing this frequently when I was a child, writing to my school friends during the summer vacation.

Although I have no finished paintings this month, I did try to make another (my second, actually) stationery with watercolor - the first one I made in June - this time with a sea and octopus theme.

Then, today, I shall spend most of my time working. Speaking of work, I hope next year brings me much better ones.

Here's To Me *raises glass*

I really need to draw and paint again soon. And then do it regularly like before. The truth is, this is my first major procrastination with my drawing. For the months of October and November, I only did two pieces each. Now we are almost halfway through December and I do not have anything. Just a few sketches and some warmups for a commission. Last Monday, I sketched something about This Distance (between myself and Suddenly Disappearing People)

This Distance (2013)

I was a bit out of sorts Monday, and I barely have any memories of its earlier part, but in the evening, I did have a really happy kendo practice. I enjoyed keiko so much, and I had an energizing and encouraging practice with valuable lessons from the teacher who taught me that evening. He has the firmness and authority of a teacher, and yet he has the kindness and sincere concern of a mentor who has only your best interests in mind, hence he teaches so effectively. By effectively, I do not mean I became a super kendo girl overnight, but he is effective in that he inspires his students not just to do things correctly because he said so, but to do well because he makes them want to really do well. He neither terrorizes nor bullies, nor does he have moods and favorites. He is the second sensei I like practising with the most (at least from those based here), the first being my previous sensei before who was assigned the female players over a couple of years ago.

I had not realized I had such a great time Monday night, until I did so on the morning of Tuesday. I woke up cheerful and I was fired up to go about my tasks for the day.

To-dos, checked

Apart from my listed to-dos, I even had time organizing some stationery items and rediscovering stocks of sticky notes, among other stationery supplies.

Tub of Sticky Notes

I guess I also felt lighter because I think I am getting used to some recent changes in my routine, or something suddenly pulled out of my routine. When I find myself thinking about it, I consciously choose not to dwell and then I move on to what I could better do at that moment. Each day I try Not To Dwell. If someone chooses to be absent from your life forever, then you can only be Even More Present for yourself. So that you do not get lost in that person's absence.

Some essentials

So my Tuesday was getting on in such an Ideal, OC manner. Suddenly…

Stepping out, bringing my Tokobots with me

My afternoon plans to work dissolved into thin air, because the entire family decided to step out for errands and things. I had been addicted to Tokobot since morning, since I have finally finished my FF III in DS after what felt like 300 years. So I brought my game with me like some kind of Gadgety Blankie.

We did come back home after a short while, only to be dragged out again because everyone still wanted to go someplace else. It all happened so quickly I even had to bring my mug of coffee to the car. In the moderate traffic, I looked out and enjoyed the OUTSIDE view.

Wednesday, despite having a mix-up about the alarm-time which caused me a great deal of confusion and disorientation in the morning, I would say I was still quite productive and I finally finished a pending job that involved data on circles and venues. The moment I saved all the data, I felt FREE.

Storage devices, suddenly looking more interesting because of the filter, when in real life I wouldn't even take a second look

After the morning's work I told myself to add to the warmups I did before with anthuriums on them. I had to Really Tell myself to do them despite my feeling of blah-ness about drawing, since I read somewhere that for you to draw, all you need to do is be present in front of the paper or the canvas and just… draw. Everyday.

Dreamy sketches

However, today, I did not draw again D: I was drunk with sleepiness most of this morning, that I'd have vivid DREAMS Within The First Five Minutes of my naps. In any case I feel more awake now, and having finished the day's work earlier this afternoon, I did some kind of Lady Mary after having provided water for her parched pigs. I had wine and scrambled eggs, though it was my mind that was muddy and not my hair and clothes.

Merlot and glass, Merlot given by a kendo classmate earlier this year

So, here's to me. *raises glass*

Recovery Weekend

So I suddenly fell ill last Thursday, so after my work that afternoon, I decided I would not work Friday, and instead just rest for the whole day, so that I would be well enough to go to kendo Saturday. Thus, on Friday I slept in, and woke up six hours later than my usual waking time on a Friday, and had a late breakfast of sticky rice with coconut jam, to go with my meds.

I rarely get ill, and considering that I was just ill on the last week of October and then again this week, I would say this is quite frequent already. I hope there are no more follow-ups. I guess I have just been really tired. For a quarter already. And some people are starting to notice that my eyes look tired and that I have a general exhausted look on my face. Oh the trouble.

Anyway, earlier during this week, one of my sempai gave me a shinai and I was really happy about it. I gave him an origami enve-note :3

It was originally a plain envelope but I adorned it with a candy sticker and I attached a note with crafted edges inside for a proper writing surface, to make it easier also to figure the thing out, thus making it more like an enve-note :3

So I made that Friday, and then gave it to him Saturday before kendo practice started. Before heading off to the dojo though, I had a sudden compulsion to re-organize some of my things and throw away a bunch more. It made me feel good somehow, because lately all I can think of is replacing everything I have because of some mad need to move on. I even want to change furniture and everything inside my closet. Anyway in the process of organizing things I realized I have too many of these hair elastics and I was completely wrong in assuming I could fit all of them in that small jar.

Kendo practice was great as usual, and by the time it was finished, my residual fever has totally left me, and after that all I could think about was going on a marathon of TV series and then sleeping, since I did not have work this Sunday morning. So I was able to sleep in again. I woke up around 10, realizing that a whole week of silence has just passed, and I keep wondering why, though I know it is currently futile to seek answers not wanting to be found yet, if at all.

In any case I am glad to remember having spoken and caught up again with this cool person last Saturday, who does not think I am weird at all, is cool with girl-crushes, completely understands the need for gaming in one's life, is comfortably open to the year being called the Year of True Paths, does not judge me for finding that Odin is my anchor, and does not require me to try to be "normal." It is kind of hard to come across these great people, see. So even if I just rarely see and talk to this totally cool person I think it is great and it is such a breather from all the narrow places I try to squeeze through which are usually the minds of some people I encounter.

And what about today - mostly I played my long overdue FF III game in DS, and I also ate some ravaged birthday cake.

I have been realizing more things in this Year of True Paths, but when you are a.) almost floaty and delirious from fever, b.) cut off from someone's life because he suddenly stops communicating with you, and c.) overcome by a great desire to throw away all your things and replace them with new ones, these realizations of things seem to accelerate, the silences seem more deafening, and everywhere seems to be more crowded than ever.

Clicking Away, As Though In A Trance

So I received in my email some promo flights, and I clicked away and clicked away until I came to this page and stopped clicking, because I just really more of just wanted to Kind Of Book flights every now and then, which I sometimes do to other places as well, like Kuala Lumpur and Hanoi and Cambodia and Singapore and Hong Kong, just so I Feel the whole thing, though there are oftentimes no definite plans about them.

If it were up to me though, I would rather go now to Cambodia or Chiang Mai and stay away from everyone. Okay maybe except to go to kendo classes.
